Today was an extremely long, but productive day. I was with the kids all morning, then with the elderly mid-afternoon. Soon after lunch, I went to the store where I found Esteban (a volunteer from the university) waiting for me. I had two classes of English; one for the little boys, and one for older adults. The three little boys were again, misbehaved, but a little better than before. There were a few other boys who truly wanted to learn English and they were extremely sweet. The older adults’ class was pretty successful as well. There was an older woman who wanted to learn common phrases and different words that would be useful while cooking (teaspoon, flour, sugar, etc) and how to pronounce those words. There was also a sixteen year old who was very shy. It was difficult to teach her or to even find out how I could help her, because she wouldn’t talk. During the time I was teaching these women, many people came into the FEVI store to buy clothes. After the women left the English class, I sold many things at the store! Woohoo! By this time I was exhausted from the day (little kids, older people, 2 English classes and working at the store), but a couple of friends stopped by the store and wanted to talk for a while. Haha. I ended up closing shop a little later than usual and headed home. For dinner, we had rice (which I was actually craving since we hadn’t eaten it the last few days!), fried plátano, and a whole fish (including the tail and head). I wasn’t grossed out by the sight of a fish lying on my plate, but I was concerned about all the bones that I would have to dig through to get to the meat. The fish was excellent! I couldn’t get enough of it…I think my mom really did a good job of flavoring it with lemon juice and whatever else she put in it. My parents were impressed that I liked the fish so much and that I was able to get all of the bones sorted so that I wouldn’t swallow one on accident. They said that not many of their students that they’ve hosted have eaten the fish that they’ve prepared for them. A good meal finished off the night and I was ready to relax!
